NATIONAL CENTER FOR INJURY PREVENTION AND CONTROL
Affective storytelling empowers older adults to stay active and maintain independence.

As adults age, their risk of injury from falls and motor vehicle crashes increases and the effects of such injuries can be devastating, ranging from broken bones that limit mobility to head or brain injuries that rob older adults of their independence. Brunet-García worked with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to create a campaign that spoke directly to older adults, framing injury prevention as a means of ensuring they remain able to maintain their quality of life and enjoy their later years to the fullest.

Our campaign capitalized on the power of memories and nostalgia by tapping into the hobbies and interests that give us purpose and bring us joy throughout our lives. Rather than portray older adults as frail or feeble, we told stories in video, print, and digital ads that captured their strength and vitality as they engaged in their favorite activities.
