Delores Barr Weaver will match See the Girl campaign donations

Home > Blog > Delores Barr Weaver will match See the Girl campaign donations

October 6, 2016  |  By Diane Brunet-García

Girls are more likely to be incarcerated for less serious offenses than boys, a majority of which have a history of physical and sexual abuse, often occurring during childhood.

The Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center’s See the Girl community engagement campaign aims to raise awareness and generate action to address the challenges young women face in the justice system with an understanding of the trauma that many of the girls have endured. Girls are given the resources and opportunities to rise above their circumstances.

Brunet-García and Castaño Group worked to develop this campaign to display the real faces of girls who have been assisted by the Center’s programs, featuring portraits by photographer Ingrid Damiani. See The Girl strives to inspire the community to understand the issues young women face and work together to find solutions. Through in-depth research, the Center has worked to advocate for policy change to move the needle forward at both a local and national level for young women facing incarceration and those who are already in the system.

The Delores Barr Weaver Fund at The Community Foundation will match all donations made to the Policy Center up to $800,000, through October 14, 2016. Donate today.
